As Leaving Cert students prepare to receive their CAO offers tomorrow, many are scrambling to find accommodation near their prospective colleges.
Students are being advised to stay vigilant when searching for rentals as scammers are out in force during this busy period.
Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Eddie Brennan offered some advice for students about avoiding such fraud, telling KCLR News; He says; “Your due diligence is to go and inspect that accommodation, meet the landlord personally and have that discussion with them and satisfy yourself that it’s genuine, if you’re being offered something that seems to be well below the market value you definitely need to be cautious with that, when it comes to handing over deposits transferring them electronically, you know, have you identification, are you satisfied the person you’re transferring that money to actually exists, actually has accommodation for sale?”
