HIQA reports criticise standards at residential centres for people with disabilities

Less than 2 per cent of residential centres for people with disabilities comply fully with regulations.

In a series of reports published by the health standards authority HIQA – just 3 out of 190 centres were found to be fully compliant with all the regulations.

Meanwhile, those with family members in nursing homes are being urged to give their thoughts on standards within the system.

Anybody with an opinion on how the system can be improved has until September 24th to submit their thoughts on the HIQA website.

Local TD Ann Phelan says it is important for close relatives of nursing home residents to have their say.
