Her friends and family have reached out through social media and using the hashtag #MessageforDayna on twitter thousands of messages have been sent for the 20 year old with supportive tweets from the likes of sportswomen Katie Taylor &Sonia O Sullivan, comedians Jason Byrne & Alan Carr and musicians like Bressie, The Coronas and Kodaline.

Meanwhile a facebook page set up on Friday to ask Ed Sheeran to sing for the Carlow girl has received more than 30,000 likes.

All of the girls were big fans of Ed Sheeran and a social media campaign has began to get the English singer to visit her when he comes to Ireland later this month.

A twitter campaign with the hashtag #singforDayna has also been trending nationally on Twitter for much of the weekend. #MessageforDayna is now trending this morning.
