A brave Carlow teenager’s receiving huge recognition for saving his grandfather’s life.
Tullow’s Matthew Kelly was this week named the overall individual winner of the local Garda Youth Awards.
The 18-year-old performed CPR on his grandad Dermot for 20 minutes after he suffered a serious fall down the stairs.
Matthew says CPR is a skill everyone should have.
“CPR is a big life-saver, and if everyone could do it I’m sure there’d be a lot more people saved. You can see it a lot of times that people who go on to learn CPR have been in a situation before where they needed it” he told The Way It Is. “I can’t say it enough- learning CPR is the best thing you can do to help the people around you.”
