After claiming Division 4 glory last year, Carlow will find themselves back to square one next season.
Speaking to KCLR Sport after the match, Carlow manager Brían O’Ruairc reflected on his side’s relegation, acknowledging the disappointment while also finding some positives in their performance.
“That’s us down. It’s probably been coming a little while. It’s very disappointing but I suppose we will take a lot from that second-half performance, there were a few girls that really stood up today”
The Carlow manager commented on his young team’s development, noting that while they are still finding their feet, they have shown promise and competitiveness against strong teams like Wexford.
“I think six or seven of last year’s minors have made the step up and started games this year. We’re a young team we have had to re-build a little bit and at times we showed we can mix it at this level”
Looking ahead to the Leinster championship, Brían O’Ruairc shifted focus from the disappointment of relegation and expressed optimism for the challenges ahead.
“We have a little bit of time to get over the fact that we’re going down and focus now on a Leinster championship where we can hopefully make a really deep run”
Carlow will face Down in Round 7 of the Lidl Ladies National Football League this Sunday March 30th at 2pm.
