Kilkenny Councillor wants city to be ready for major sporting event

A Kilkenny Councillor says “it’s time we get our house in order” when it comes to Nowlan Park so we’re not caught off guard if a major world sporting event does come our way.

David Fitzgerald says rumour is rife that Ireland’s bid to host the Rugby World Cup 2023 will be successful, which means that games could then be played in the Kilkenny stadium.

A proposal which would see upgrade works carried out on the Hebron Road, and address parking issues there, is expected to go to public consultation soon.

The matter was discussed at yesterday’s council meeting and Councillor Fitzgerald says now is the time to get moving.

He told KCLR News that there is council land nearby that could be used to help address the parking situation.
