Kilkenny County Councillors are calling on the Agriculture Minister to guarantee the future of the county’s veterinary lab.
Uncertainty still surrounds the local facility after a working group set up to review labs around the country said, earlier this year, that they’d favour it closing.
A motion is being brought before Kilkenny County Council at their last monthly meeting of the summer next week by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil members.
Councillor Matt Doran told KCLR News the lab here is needed now more than ever with a huge expansion in herd numbers.
He says it doesn’t make any sense at all, financial or otherwise.
