The Mayor of Kilkenny says he is frustrated by the delays in reintroducing the free 15 minute parking in Kilkenny City.
All 7 members of the Kilkenny District voted to restore the free parking last April but it has not been reinstated to date.
Cllr Andrew McGuinness wants the parking reinstated and raised this during his speech when he was recently elected as Mayor.
The Fianna Fail Cllr says it needs to be restored as a matter of urgency…
“At the time we were told that it would take between two and three months to recalibrate the machines and to get new signage and to implement all of that and we were told that it all had to be done in a coordinated fashion at the same time. So we were told it would take between two or three months and we’re at the three-month mark now.”
“It’s very frustrating for us as public representatives, for me as mayor and for the local businesses, that it is taking such a long length of time.”
“They said they’re literally down to the last stage where they have ordered in all of the new signage and when that comes, the free 15 minutes will be reinstated again immediately but at the same time you know I take our engineer’s word and I believe that they are going put the pressure on and use this as an opportunity to call on our engineers, to call on Kilkenny County Council, to implement the free 15 minutes immediately. We waited
almost three months now and it’s not fair on local businesses.”
