We’re in the midst of record-breaking temperatures for May but that bring risks with it.
Kilkenny, Laois and Tipperary are among eight counties under a status yellow high temperature warning until 6 o’clock this (Wednesday) evening.
While Carlow was one of the country’s hottest spots yesterday – Met Eireann’s facility at Oak Park recorded 29.7 degrees Celcius which was pipped by its sister station at Shannon Airport where 30.5 was noted.

There’s a call to enjoy it while it lasts – Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather says while today looks set to be another great day, though temperatures highest in the West of Ireland, cloud is likely with possibilities of thunderstorms and showers before a dull Thursday with the good spell back on Friday.
However, you’re reminded of the potential for heat stress and forest fires as well as risks at waterbodies.
In particular, advice is to keep yourself and animals in your care out of the midday sunshine and stay hydrated.
