A local TD has hit out at the rising cost of car insurance.
Bobby Aylward raised the matter in the Dáil, using a family member of his own as an example.
He says the 18-year-old was able to be insured as a learner driver on his mother’s insurance for just €800, but that once he got his licence the figure jumped by over €3,000.
Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Aylward said it’s an issue that has impacted on every family’s finances.
He described the issue as scandalous saying “it has gone out of all proportion and is up to the Government to do something about it.”
