Kilkenny’s set to get its first Columbarium Wall.
The facility, which will initially see niches for the cremated remains of up to 80 people, will be installed in St Kieran’s Cemetery in the city.
The development requires Part 8 planning which was initiated last Oct – the public consultation phase of this ended in November with no submissions from the public. The council’s Chief Executive is recommending it proceed with hopes to award a contract in early May for the six-month construction stint.
Cllr John Coonan says the provision offers a choice to people locally and he adds that the intention is that should demand require it the option could be replicated at points across the country.
