A Kilkenny woman whose grand-aunt was placed in a local mother and baby home says something should be done to commemorate all the young lives that were lost in these institutions.
Christine’s grand-aunt gave birth to a little boy, named Patrick, at the former county home in Thomastown in 1946, who was then taken from her and she always maintained he had been given away.
However, Christine has told KCLR News that her family has received confirmation from Tusla in the past number of days which has confirmed that he did in fact die and is buried in the Shankyard at St Columba’s.
Christine says she would now like to organise something to remember the death of 9-month-old Patrick and the other babies there.
