Less money for Councils will make fixing roads damaged in recent bad weather more difficult

Local councils face tackling road surfaces with less money this year.

A senior engineer with Kilkenny local authorities says they’ve seen a 40 percent reduction in its budget for road maintenance between 2008 and 2014.

Simon Walton says in 2008 the councils budget for roadworks was 17.5 million – this year its 10.85 million.

And he says it will make it harder to get the necessary works done.
