Drivers across Carlow and Kilkenny are being advised that new laws came into effect this morning that will see you face a fine if you drive with defective tyres.
These new laws were announced by Pascal Donohue this week.
Although it is already an offence to drive with tyres that are worn, there will now be a fine of €80, with two penalty points on your licence.
If you don’t pay the fine you could end up in court facing 4 penalty points.
Defective tyres were “the most significant factor” in vehicle-related fatalities, Mr Donohoe said, linked to the deaths of 71 people in the past five years.
This new law is being introduced in the hope of lowering the number of deaths on our roads.
