A Kilkenny GP says on the whole, there are more positives than negatives to a new deal between the Irish Medical Organisation and the government.
Tadhg Crowley says there’s been a lot of talk about the extension of the free GP care to eventually include under 12s, but there’s a lot more to the deal than that.
He’s told KCLR News, while doctors do have reservations about how that element of it will work, overall they’re pleased with what’s being negotiated.
One of the measures will see doctors able to treat their patients for chronic conditions that up to this point they had to go to hospital for.
Dr Crowley says, “For the first time since 1970, we’ll actually be able to look after patients with chronic disease problems.”
