Local pro-life TD says he could be swayed to allow abortion in certain circumstances

A local Fianna Fáil TD says he may be open to being swayed on the issue of abortion in certain circumstances.

The Citizens’ Assembly is calling for laws to allow abortion in any circumstances up to 12 weeks.

Yesterday, the only Carlow/Kilkenny TD who said they would be in favour of this was Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion.

Fianna Fáil’s Bobby Aylward was one of those who said an outright “no” and that he’s very much pro-life.

However, speaking on last night’s The Way It Is Deputy Aylward says his mind isn’t fully made up when it comes to pregnancy as a result of a crime.

He admitted there is a grey area when it comes to issues like rape and incest, but says abortion may not be the answer there either.
