A local TD claims Mullinavat, Ballyhale and Knocktopher are being starved of growth due to each area’s lengthy wait for improved water and sewerage services.
With each townland within proximity of both the M9 and the Dublin to Waterford rail service, the appeal for developers to build new housing estates in areas within commuting distance of both Kilkenny and Carlow is obvious.
But the absence of adequate sewerage systems in the three villages is negatively impacting on these areas for several reasons according to Sinn Féin Deputy Natasha Newsome Drennan who told KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes; “Without sewerage you can’t have the houses, without proper water facilities you can’t have houses and then that feeds back into schools, our schools don’t have pupil numbers and we have to keep our numbers up in our schools, we have to keep numbers up in our GAA pitches, they’re the heart and soul of the place, and if we don’t get houses built soon I don’t know where it’s going to end up”.
Meanwhile, for more from across south Kilkenny make sure you join KCLR as we broadcast Between Towns & Villages live from The Seantí in Kilmacow tomorrow evening from 7-9pm, presented by Brian Redmond and produced by Dermot Keyes before an in-person audience.
