“The experience has haunted me all my life”.
The words of Maggie who lives in Graiguenamanagh but who gave birth to two babies in Bessborough mother and baby home in Cork in 1976 and 78 when she was 19 and 21.
She says they got to spend three months with her on both occasions before one day they were taken from her and given up for adoption without her knowledge.
She has since managed to make contact with her eldest daughter but she’s still searching for her second child.
Maggie told The Way It Is on KCLR last night that this is a burden she’s been made carry for decades.
Speaking about her experience for the first time, Maggie said she wants every mother and baby home in the country included in the investigation that’s currently underway.
