A Kilkenny man, who’s in his 60s, says he’s been lying on a trolley in St Luke’s Hospital for more than 72 hours now.
Tom has a chronic respiratory illness and he contacted KCLR News today to highlight the situation there which he says is chaotic.
According to the latest trolley figures from the INMO, Tom is one of 37 patients without a bed in the local hospital at the moment – the second highest figure in the country.
Speaking from the hospital, Tom says he had to sit on a chair for up to 11 hours before a trolley even became available for him last Thursday night.
Meanwhile, a major recruitment drive has been launched once again by the local hospital – large signs have gone up looking for nurses and midwives to join the St Luke’s team.
KCLR has contacted the Ireland East Hospital Group for comment.
