The Fianna Fáil leader says the party is in renewal and is rebuilding.

Mícheál Martin says that’s the context in which Patrick McKee’s return to Fianna Fáil must be viewed.

Speaking in Carlow, Deputy Martin addressed the matter which has been a controversial one on the local scene.

At least one Councillor – Councillor Joe Malone – has already indicated he is willing to run as an Independent in next years local elections if the matter is not resolved.

However, Mícheál Martin said as far as he is concerned a resolution has been reached:

“There has been consultation and engagement between the councillors and representatives of party headquarters and I think a satisfactory resolution has been arrived at.

“People obviously aren’t entirely happy but I think there has been a resolution. And I think we have taken on board the concerns of councillors and we do take those views seriously.”
