A new pedestrian bridge has been hailed as a valuable and welcome part of Kilkenny’s active travel plans.
The structure’s now in place to connect Coote’s Lane and the Ring Road improving accessibility for cyclists and walkers.
County Council Cycling Officer Caitriona Corr expects it’ll be well used; “It’ll be a lovely amenity for the residential communities there, there’s lots of options for looped walks now that that bridge will be in place and I suppose the reason it came about from an active travel point of view is that it also serves a lot of primary schools so it’s a lovely off-road link for those attending in particular John of God and Patrick’s De La Salle”.
She adds; “We have been working with some of the schools over the last year or two years just to increase the biodiversity value of that lane, so there’s been some lovely native planting heritage apple trees and there’s also a mural which has been inspired by Cartoon Saloon’s Wolfwalkers on Coote’s Lane so hopefully it’ll be a lovely active travel route for not only the schoolchildren but also those living in the community”.
