There’s no money available to provide CCTV at Carlows Town park.
The joint policing committee was told yesterday the Government doesn’t have the funds to provide security cameras there despite a recent campaign that was started by local woman Róisín Fitzpatrick after her brother Eoin was mugged there.
Róisín had lodged a petition with the council in recent weeks after gathering more than 2,600 signatures online calling for extra security there.
Senator Jennifer Murnane O’ Connor was at the meeting yesterday. She says its deeply disappointing that there’s no funding coming for this project.
There is still a chance of getting some money towards the project through a new scheme announced recently by the Government whereby the Department of Justice will provide up to 60% of the funding for security cameras in the community.
Senator Murnane O’ Connor says that could mean a 2 year wait though.
