A local representative of a community group has called for accountability for energy companies, ahead of a planned meeting to oppose the Ballynalacken wind farm tonight.
The proposed wind farm will be located across Byrnesgrove, Ballymartin, Ballynalacken, Ballyouskill and Loughill, and will see 12 wind turbines erected.
An objection to the wind farm must be submitted by the 9th of May.
The meeting will take place in Ballyouskill Parish Hall at 7pm, at which a number of local councillors are expected to attend.
Speaking on the KCLR Daily, Stephen Walshe said that there had previously been applications for wind farms in the area.
“More information is needed, more education is needed, and more accountability for the power companies involved, I mean, we had an application in 2005, that was rejected, you know, over a decade later, they’re back again, higher, taller, and with more of them.”
He continued by asking “When does it stop? If, and I hope we are successful in our objection to this development, will it be another two years, and an application will go in for maybe twice the number again, but maybe under a different townsland’s name?”
