Ordination of new Bishop of Ossory taking place in Kilkenny today

114 priests and more than 20 bishops will be gathering in Kilkenny today as the new Bishop of Ossory is to be ordained.

Monsignor Dermot Farrell will be taking over the role which was being looked after by the Diocesean Administrator, Monsignor Michael Ryan since the retirement of Bishop Séamus Freeman in 2016.

The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, and the Papal Nuncio will also be in attendance in St Mary’s Cathedral this afternoon.

Speaking to KCLR ahead of his ordination, Monsignor Farrell – who’s originally from Westmeath – says he’s been trying to get to know Kilkenny over the last few weeks.
