UPDATE (Wednesday, 15th Jan): Uisce Éireann has confirmed to KCLR News that the restrictions have now being lifted
Earlier story;
Overnight water supply restrictions are now in place for part of north Kilkenny.
Following on from last week’s plea by Uisce Éireann to those in Castlecomer and surrounds to conserve water, from 9pm to 9am there limitations in place in a bid to maintain daytime needs.
Customers in Clogh, Ardra, Massford, Moneenroe and Coolbawn, as well as the town itself, may experience interruptions to supply, discolouration or reduced pressure during these times – added to this a further 3 to 4 hours may be needed for a full return.
Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward in a statement to KCLR News says; “Due to significantly low reservoir levels these restrictions are necessary in order to maintain and protect a daytime supply. We understand the inconvenience that restrictions cause and want to thank the community for their patience.”
There are some water saving tips on their website here where you’ll also find a conservation calculator to work out how much water you are currently saving and how to conserve even more.
Uisce Éireann says it’s committed to keeping customers informed across multiple platforms 24/7 and encourage customers to engage with them through their social media channels and with their 24/7 customer care helpline:1800 278 278. There’s also a free text service with real-time updates for local issues – sign up with your Eircode and mobile number at www.water.ie.
Meanwhile, in addition to such restrictions as the country thaws Uisce Eireann is urging you to report any leaks or broken pipes over the next few days.
Demand is understood to have reached record levels as a result of leaks and bursts across the network, but crews are on standby for maintenance and repairs.
