There are a range of reasons as to why the South East Greenway’s progressing at the rate it is.
The amenity when complete will stretch from Rosbercon in New Ross to Waterford city but is mainly in Co Kilkenny.
The first 6kms between New Ross and Glenmore opened to the public last July.
Cllr Eamon Aylward asked at this month’s Piltown Municipal District meeting as to why the project wasn’t developed in one go instead of in stages.
Director of Services with Kilkenny County Council, Sean McKeown had this answer for KCLR News; “There are particular works, we’ve to cross a river so the bridge works that are involved there will be of a specialist nature, we have quite a large section, five kilometres from Curraghmore to Aylwardstown, that involves a number of rock faces so again that’s quite specialist work involved there”.
