A woman in her 70s has died after being hit by a car outside Tinryland in Carlow last night.
The incident occurred at roughly half past 6 yesterday evening, on the N80 in the townland of Rathcrogue.
The woman’s body was removed from the scene to University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured.
The road is currently closed just past Tinryland GAA club, and will remain closed until at least 12pm on December 28th, pending a full Garda technical examination of the scene.
Speaking to KCLR News, Superintendent Anthony O’Farrell said that “Gardai are appealing for any information that would support the Garda investigation, maybe people were in the area at the time, maybe you may have witnessed the accident, if you have dashcam footage, if you can support the Garda investigation in any way, please do not hesitate to contact the Garda Station in Carlow at 059 913 6620.”
