Picket lines forming at construction sites across the country as UNITE members down tools

Picket lines are being formed at construction sites around the country this morning.

Members of the Unite trade union are striking as they want travel allowances reinstated, after they were cut during the recession. (see statement issued yesterday here).

It’s claimed workers are frustrated by the lack of attention shown by employers to the issue.

Selected large construction sites where members of the Mechanical Engineering & Building Services Contractors’ Association (MEBSCA) are carrying out works in Kildare, Dublin, Cork and Limerick are the key areas where there’s action today.
