A Carlow councillor’s had his plea for free HRT for all women raised in the Seanad.
Senator Maria Byrne highlighted the campaign by Ben Ward, name-checking him during proceedings and has assured him the Department is actively working on it. (Watch below).
Just last month he’d discussed the issue with An Taoiseach Simon Harris.
Cllr Ward’s been telling KCLR News he hopes it’ll be progressed and soon, noting; “It’s looking good, I was delighted to have Maria Byrne raise the issue of free HRT in the Seanad, I suppose the campaign is continuing now up until the Budget which will be announced next week so we’re hoping the Minister will confirm today that there will be an announcement now soon so it’s looking good”.
He adds; “I only know about it myself because it came up on the doors when I was out canvassing for local elections and, you know, people were telling me that it costs anywhere between €30 to €70 actually for some prescriptions and that’s every month and I suppose it’s something that only affects women so it’s an inequality within our health care system and it’s something that I think could be changed and it’s possible we could get a positive result at Budget time this year”.
