The most popular baby names for Kilkenny and Carlow during 2017 have been revealed.

Kilkenny’s haven’t changed since the year before but Carlow’s have.

Harry is now the most popular baby name for boys born in Carlow.

That’s according to figures just released by the Central Statistics Office for 2017.

The year before, the top name for boys in the county was Daniel.

When it comes to girls names, Emily is now the favourite, which is keeping with the trend nationally.

In 2016 the top girls name for Carlow was Mia.

In Kilkenny, meanwhile, 2017 saw James and Grace once again retain their top spots in the county.

Nationally, Emily and Jack have held onto their positions as most popular baby names in the entire country.

Emily has held that position since 2011, while Jack has lasted a lot longer – since 2007.

The CSO says if you jump back 50 years to 1967, the most popular names for babies born in that year were John and Mary.
