Concerns have been raised over the future of the JJ Kavanagh 736 bus service through Castledermot, amid claims the route could be withdrawn.
Commuters fear losing a vital direct link to Dublin, with alternative public transport options adding significant travel time.
Ben is a user of the service and he says the link is vital. “It’s the commuters that need to get up early in the mornings on a direct service, local link would be of no use to them because by the time they get to Ness, wait for the 126, get to Dublin, get into the city centre, it would possibly be well over three hours. Commuters who don’t drive, who depend on this Kavanagh service from Castledermot have no way of getting to Carlow at six o’clock in the morning.”
A statement from JJ Kavanagh’s says: “To clarify, we are still operating our Castledermot stop at present. Proposed changes to the route and licence have been temporarily delayed, with no timeline in place for when they are likely to change. As soon as any changes are due to come into effect, we will be posting updates on our website and social media accounts.”
