Tipps Noel McGrath made a return to hurling four months after undergoing testicular cancer surgery and edged Tipperary ahead with a 70th minute point, but Jason Flynn and Shane Moloney got the crucial points for Galway.
Its a repeat of the 2012 All Ireland Final which was decided after a replay.
