hurrrlllRound 2 of the J. J. Kavanagh & Sons Carlow senior hurling championship really came to life this weekend

St. Mullins in fine form set the tone at mid-day as they defeated Naomh Brid by sixteen points,

St. Mullins only led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break but went on to score 2-9 in the last period, their goals coming from John Murphy and James Doyle who finished with a tally of 1-5.

St. Mullins 2-16 Naomh Brid 0-6

 

Erins Own and Ballinkillen served up a thriller in the opening half with the lead see-sawing from side to side

Erins Own held a two point lead at the break 1-9 to 0-10 their goal coming from Andrew Beaton.

Ballinkillen were quickly back in front with a David English penalty, and inside of thirty seconds Peter Doyle shot home Erins Own second gaol for his side to lead by two points 2-9 to 1-10.

Six minutes in to the last period Ballinkillen sprung in to action with inspired hurling to score a further 2-10, Marty Dalton and Damian O’Neill getting the two goals as they ran out ten point winners.

The big crowd came to see would it happen and it did as Naomh Eoin defeated Mt. Leinster Rngs by seven points in a strong tough encounter,Naomh Eoin were leading 0-3 to 0-1 when Kevin Foley struck for the game’s only goal after seventeen minutes and they stretched their lead to 1-6 to 0-2 at half time.

True to form Rngs rallied in the last period but came up against a solid Naomh Eoin defence.

The hurling was fast and furious no quarter asked nor none given, and every ball contested and as time slipped by Naomh Eoin held that five to six point lead all through and finished seven point winners Final
