More housing, better traffic / parking systems and play areas.
These are just some of the items which the residents of The Butts in Kilkenny city are calling for.
We revealed earlier this week how Kilkenny County Council had secured funding to the tune of €850,000 to help form a plan of action of rejuvenation.
Traffic congestion has long been a talking point with the entry point from Tullaroan being via Lord Edward Street onto the Granges Road which serves two schools and hospitals, though some often travel through the narrow Connolly Street and Joseph’s Road to avoid this, which itself is an issue.
Parking too’s problamatic, some city workers often choosing to leave their cars outside the houses to avoid paying carpark fees.
A host of talented individuals have come from the estate which is one of the oldest residential areas in the city as well as the surrounds, many of them honing their skills on the streets or at the Waterbarracks.
Among them rising camogie star Kirsty Maher and legendary handballer Michael ‘Ducksie’ Walsh.
KCLR News’ Edwina Grace was there for The KCLR Daily to link back to Brian Redmond from Ann Duggan’s home on Pearse Street – if you missed that, listen back here;
Edwina stayed out to chat to others living in the area to ask for their wish list, how they believe The Butts could best be enhanced – hear that here;
