Close to a million euro’s been sourced to fund a regeneration plan in the Butts area of Kilkenny city.
The community’s one of the oldest local residential areas and in more modern times has been at the epi-centre of traffic congestion issues.
Structures, services and amenities there will be reviewed – officials from the local authority have submitted a proposal to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for funding to carry out a detailed assessment and to engage will residents to determine what measures could best benefit those there.
€850,000 has been granted to them to help fund a detailed plan of actions with preparations to begin that process now underway with the project led by Town Regeneration Officer, Annette Fitzpatrick.
Welcoming the funding announcement Mayor Joe Malone said; “This is a unique opportunity to do a detailed analysis of the views of people, the needs and opportunities in the area and to prepare plans to deliver real change for the Butts.”
