Séamus Freeman has resigned as Bishop of Ossory this morning.
Bishop Freeman, who lives in Kilkenny City, resigned on the grounds of ill-health.
It’s understood he suffered a stroke a couple of years ago.
In recent months there had been questions raised by local priests about his ability to run the diocese.
His resignation from the position was announced by the Catholic Communications Office this morning.
