South East Technological University (SETU) has been awarded the Smarter Travel Mark at silver level, recognizing organizations that promote active and sustainable travel.
This award reflects SETU’s commitment to encouraging walking, cycling, and public transport, as well as the efforts of its Estates team to support these initiatives.
Dr. David Ryan, Associate Vice President for Sustainability at SETU, stated, “Approximately 20,000 students and staff travel to and from our campuses in the southeast. Using active and sustainable commuting options can significantly reduce carbon emissions and enhance both the campus environment and individual well-being.”
To facilitate active travel, SETU offers a cycle-to-work scheme, bicycle parking at all campuses, and increasing bicycle rental options. The university also participates in national campaigns such as ‘Walktober,’ ‘Bike Week,’ ‘Marchathon Step Challenge,’ and ‘Cycle Into Summer.’
Comprehensive bus and rail service information for travel to all SETU campuses is available on the SETU website, along with a 50% fare reduction for students and young adults using the Leap Card.
