There’s been a substantial drop in the amount of new cars purchased in Carlow and Kilkenny this year.
Sales were down in every county compared to this time last year.
The latest figures from the Irish Society of the Motor Industry show that between the 1st of January and the 1st of June this year, sales of new cars in Ireland are down an average of 8% on last year.
Locally, however, the drop was more than that.
1,073 new cars have been registered in Carlow so far in 2017 – down from 1,213 this time last year, which represents a drop of 12%.
In Kilkenny, 1,701 have been sold this year – down from 1,975, which marks a decrease of 14%.
However, despite these figures, the society says it is optimistic for their end of year figures, as registration of 172 cars will start shortly.
