The River Suir Bridge which spans both Kilkenny and Waterford is to be renamed after a prominent figure in Irish history.
Opened in 2009, the bridge which links the two counties will soon be known as the Thomas Francis Meagher bridge in honour of the Waterford-born man who played a key role in the rebellion of 1848.
Meagher is also the person credited with having first presented the country’s tri-colour in April of that same year.
Speaking on KCLR, PRO of the 1848 Tricolour Celebration Committee, Michael Garland, said that it’s a fitting name for the infrastructure.
