The stunning ‘Sun Stone’ on the grounds of Carlow College St Patrick’s is to the fore of KCLR’s Feasts and Festivals later.
The series by Angela Doyle Stuart looks at key dates and how they’re marked.
Today being the longest of the year, the latest installment will hear from the local third level facility’s groundskeeper Larry who’ll outline the public art piece which was created in 1993 by German Sculptor Paul Schneider. Part of the Carlow Art Collection, it can be found on the front lawn of the property.
Aligned with the Summer Solstice it’s hailed for “Connecting art, place, light and landscape in a really special way”. (More here).
Added to that Cllr Fergal Browne will be discussing the Brown’s Hill Dolmen site while Justin Kelly will look at music connected to Solstice (he may even play a tune too!).
The piece airs after the 6pm News.
Meanwhile, separately the Lingaun Valley Solstice Festival winds down this evening – more here.
