A policy of only allowing traditional shopfronts in the medieval city of Kilkenny is to return.
Elected members of the local authority voted unanimously on Friday to support a motion brought before them by Labour’s Seán o hArgáin who called for immediate action on the issue.
Councillor ó hArgáin says he is eager to see the city’s reputation restored when it comes to this matter.
Speaking to KCLR News, he affirmed that he had received an undertaking from the relevant authorities that the pre-existing policy of the council would be reverted to.
“Plastic signage, temporary signage, and plastic stick-ons in our shop windows” he noted “are not acceptable in our city”, before concluding that “we’re going to revert to the policy that we’ve had for many decades, and for which we’re well known.”
