Local soldiers hoping to be reunited with their families have been hit with another delay.
They were expected to arrive back to Dublin Airport this morning after being delayed in Syria for four days due to a clearance issue.
The plane that was to transport them from Syria hadn’t been allowed to land in Lebanon and the 130 members of the 58th Infantry group had to remain on Syria until yesterday.
Their delayed flight isn’t now expected to land until after seven o’clock this evening.
There are a handful of members from Carlow and Kilkenny, while the chaplain from James Stephens Barracks is also with them.
It’s the second significant delay to troops returning home from a tour in the middle east recently.
Minister for Defence Paul Kehoe says it’s frustrating but there is little the government can do to prevent it from happening again.
