A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being found unconsious on the grounds of Pollerton Castle in Carlow
Gardai were alerted to the discovery early on Sunday afternoon after a local man found her at the entrance to the grounds.
The injured woman who is in her 50’s was taken to St Lukes hospital in Kilkenny.
The scene was preserved for a technical examination. Superintendent Gerry Redmond said it’s evident the woman, who is from the town, had been subjected to a ‘serious assault’.

They would like to hear from anyone who travelled on Staplestown Rd, St Patricks Avenue or Pollerton Road between the hours of 2am and 5am on Sunday morning.
