Works to begin shortly on Inistioge water supply

The long-awaited upgrade to the Inistioge water supply looks set to begin soon.
A 10 million euro upgrade of the water supplies in both Inistioge and Thomastown has moved a step closer to getting underway.
A contract has now been signed with Galway-based company, Ward and Burke Construction Limited to carry out the works on behalf of Irish Water.
It will include the upgrade of the Thomastown Water Treatment Plant, and the construction of new reservoirs at Thomastown and Inistioge.
17.6 kilometres of new water mains will also be constructed to bring water over from Thomastown to replace the surface water source in Inistioge.
Irish Water have told KCLR News that this will enable the removal of the Inistioge supply from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Remedial Action List.
They say they’ll work closely with the local community to minimise the impact on residents, businesses and road users while the work is underway and they say they will give 48 hours notice if there are to be any shut-offs.
