First tonight we spoke with Adam Woods, Beef Editor with the Irish Farmers’ Journal, about the IFJ Cattle and Sheep demonstration farm based in Tullamore, County Offaly where an open day will take place on Tuesday, July 25th. Terry Carroll, dry stock adviser with Teagasc spoke to us about a sheep farm walk to be held on Brian Nicholson’s farm in Johnstown, County Kilkenny, regarded as one of the finest sheep farms in the country. He also also spoke about grass quality and how to maintain mid summer grass quality. The farm walk is part of the Teagasc Better Farm Sheep programme, takes place on July 26th and more details are here.
Arthur Byrne, Safety Manager with ESB Networks spoke with Matt about the specific dangers associated with electricity around the farm, especially in relation to the increased use of machinery at this time of year. Following a recent report on the issue of integrating seaweed into cattle feed to mitigate methane emission, we spoke with Frank O’Meara, Director of Research with Teagasc on this report and the very real issues regarding emissions and government targets for the farming sector.
