I was back in the Bottom Line hot seat this week having been away last week soaking up the rays …. Er I mean rain ! (thanks to Conor Power who deputised on the programme and did a very fine job).
It was a busy programme again this week.
Mark Fielding of ISME was particularly outspoken in relation to the Governments support for small and medium sized enterprise. When I asked him what he thought the Government should do in relation to making the banks pass on the ECB interest rate cut he almost landed himself in an “unparliamentary” predicament when he said “Grow a pair of …. “ and stopped himself just before the KCLR complaints department had to call for extra staff for the evening. What did he stop himself saying? How would you have retrieved the situation? Fill in the blank in a witty and humorous fashion and we’ll give a “shout out” for your business next week on the show – answers to [email protected] If you’d like to hear more of Mark’s musings on government, business and what the country needs to recover check out www.isme.ie

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton launched a new €250k Competitive Feasibility Fund just for women recently. Local entrepreneur Jacqui McNabb came on the programme to talk about the fund and about the wider issue of women starting and running businesses. Apparently Ireland is bottom of the class in terms of women’s participation in business as leaders and entrepreneurs. If you’re a woman who would like to receive up to 25k for a business feasibility study you’ll find the information here: www.enterpriseireland.ie

On the issue of start up businesses there’s €15,000 up for grabs in the Innovate Carlow start up and business awards being launched on July 31st at 5:30 p.m. in the Nickel Café in Carlow Shopping Centre. Guest speakers are Nicola Byrne from 11890 and Hot Irishman Bernard Walsh.
Finally it was a great pleasure to talk to hurling legend Eddie Keher on the programme about the Kilkenny GAA supporters Club special business membership. Kilkenny GAA Supporters Club have launched the 3rd year of their business membership. Businesses who want to support the Kilkenny GAA can choose from a basic €100 business membership or else opt for the “Business Membership Plus” which entitles you to include a link to your own website from the Supporters Club business directory.
