Carlow has one of the highest rates of suicide in the country

The latest figures from the National Office of Suicide Prevention show that Carlow has the second highest rate of suicide in the country
Almost 18 people per 100,000 in the county died, on average, per year, between 2013 and 2015.
Only Limerick City had a higher rate with just over 22 people while it’s much less in Kilkenny with an average of 10 people.
Males account for over 80 per cent of suicides while the highest rates were observed among 45-54 year-olds with the lowest among 15-24 year-olds and those over 65 years.
The report also indicates a leveling of the suicide rate with the latest CSO figures recording almost 490 deaths in 2013.
