Planning permission for a building to house a new MRI scanner in St Luke’s Hospital has now been lodged with the county council.
250,000 euro was the target set by the Friends of St Luke’s and at the end of November 2016, they finally reached it.
They said at the time that they expected planning permission to be lodged by the HSE for a building to house the MRI scanner, that the money was for, in early 2017.
The HSE had already said that 2.45 million euro had been ring-fenced by them to cover the cost of the building.
And now, that application for planning has finally gone in.
They’re looking to build a single-story, ground floor extension to the existing Radiology Department where the MRI unit would be housed.
A single-storey first floor extension of 90 square metres would also be built over that department for a dedicated plantroom.
Members of the Friends of St Luke’s charity have told KCLR News they’re delighted that progress is being made.
