Migrant rights groups say it’s unacceptable for asylum seekers to be living in centres deemed a fire risk by officials.
The Journal Investigates has released a new report which shows 150 premises across the country, 17 in Kilkenny with nine in Carlow, were hit with fire safety notices since 2020 – some IPAS centres were among the buildings mentioned. (Read the piece in full here).
The Department of Justice says it takes the welfare and safety of residents seriously and fire regulations are of “paramount importance”.
