2 Ferrybank scouts hailed as “hereos” after helping their trapped leader on an Austrian Alp

Two scouts from Ferrybank in County Kilkenny have been hailed as heroes after coming to the rescue of their scout leader 3 thousand metres high up an Austrian alp.

Their leader Mick McGrath, was on an expedition with his son Brian, who’s 17, and 16 year old Sean Hoban. The trio were descending a glacier when Mick fractured his ankle.

He tried to keep going despite his injury, but it was too severe to carry on.

16-year-old Sean told WLR FM that he put all his survival skills into action when he was required to act quickly.
